Our Trip Starts Next Week

This blog is going to focus on being vegan on the road, different foods that we encounter, restaurant recommendations, food markets, cooking classes, road-tested recipes and the like. Anything pertaining to our global food experiences.

As an ethical vegan, I’m also concerned about the condition, welfare and treatment of all kinds of animals, so I’ll comment on that side of things too. We will be visiting a foundation to help street dogs, an elephant sanctuary, a colony of fur seals, animals on the African plains and so on while we are away. My thoughts on those experiences will also be recorded here.

Introduction

Hello, I’m Jenn, vegan wife and mom. I have an omni husband, a vegan daughter and a vegetarian son.

Just six more months until I hit the road with my family in tow. We will travel the world for 200 days, visiting the bustling cities of SE Asia and the dusty trails of the Nepal Himalaya to sea-side villages in the Mediterranean and desert towns in Namibia. We’ll journey to remote destinations that aren’t often visited by Americans, including Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, and Kazakhstan, a large landlocked country that was once part of the Soviet Union.

It’s a big world out there, but just how can a vegan thrive in places where meat is often revered as a symbol of wealth or an ingredient that has been used for generations? In some of the places I’m going, even the term vegetarian is poorly understood.

Join me in my global vegan journey!
